“Soccer has always been a big part of my life as a hobby I enjoyed in my spare time, but that changed once I joined a team. I became a part of a family, I’ve been given the chance to gain new skills and also improve the ones I already knew. Besides the things already mentioned I’ve been given the chance to explore places I’ve never could of image even existed.”

“Since I’ve joined the Toronto Street Kings in 2007 my life has changed in certain areas, I’m more focus on what I need to do in life, and dedicate my time playing soccer instead of out on the street getting myself into trouble.”

“To be perfectly blunt, indoor soccer for me has been a good, great, frustrating and exhilarating all mixed up together. The amount of time I spend planning and playing soccer has given me more discipline and resolve. Since I started playing in May 2008, I’ve returned to school to finish my degree and even joined a gym every week. I’d like to thank my friends, teammates, coaches etc.. for making 2008 (and continuing into 2009) a heckuva time. Ritchie. Thanx Cristian, Basile, Rob, Krystal, Elliot, Richard, Desmond etc.”

“May 2008 was a new month and a new year for me, and what a great year. Joined a soccer program and it gave me hope again for a new life and a clean life away from drugs. I now can say I have a steady roof over my head and a steady job, made some great friends along the way (coach Cristian, Rob and Paul). I call them my support group even though I never tell them that.
This soccer program has given me life, motivation and brought the game of soccer back into my life after 10 years absence. I’m very grateful and have now reasons to live my life in the real world. Thanx to Rob, Cristian, Paul. P.S. Thanx to all my teammates at the soccer program. Rich-Ritchie-Desmond-Krystal-Baw-Elliot”

“Being apart of John Innes gives me the feeling of being accepted, but being apart of John Innes soccer program has taught me about respecting others and gaining respect. When I started the program I didn’t know what to expect. When I first moved to Toronto 3 years ago, my mind was not on the right path. Out in the back of my building hanging out with drug dealers and serving friends. I thought it was the life. Until one day a man named Monty came through the block with a soccer ball and I started juggling it around. I kept seeing Monty around, when he asked me to come play at John Innes I said “I’ll see”.
Not a lot of people I hung out with were really a friend to me. None of them encouraged me to play soccer. I had to push myself, which was a challenge, because I would have pressure to do what my “friends” would do. I lost a lot of people that I called a “friend”, but it is worth it now. When I look at myself now I see the Krystal that had life. Instead of the Krystal that was trying to destroy it. I will continue to play soccer with John Innes till the day comes to move on to bigger and better opportunities. Soccer has changed me.”
